A Scottish Tuesday Morning
There's a cat strangler bagpiper on the porch of the church around the circle from our building. Can't tell what's going on, maybe a wedding? I'm not hearing any of the usual funeral tunes.

Lucky you. All I hear is the roar of the lawn mowers and grass trimmers. Smells good, though :-)

*lol* Lucky you- we have salvation army brass band that plays nearly every day at lunchtime-not so nifty as a bagpiper ;)

I know I'm a bit late in responding but it might be a Kirking of the Tartan (blessing the tartan in church). Were there a lot of people in kilts and sashes running around??

Actually, after I pointed the piper (pipers...a 2nd one showed up) out to my coworker (a former building code official), he said they *were* playing a funeral tune--apparently used frequently by firefighters honoring fallen comrades. He says there's a long tradition of Scotsmen in the fire service.

Were there any tunes you *did* recognize? Just curious...though I know it's damned hard to identify some melodies on bagpipes.

"The British used to stand on top of the White Cliffs of Dover and shout insults at the oncoming Romans. The Romans, having already heard the bagpipes, were not impressed and shot them down."
